The second version of SEVENTEEN SHITTY MOUNTAINS, AKA SHITTY SUN TUNNELS, INCLUDING HERMAPHROHENGE AKA SCOTTHENGE AKA SHITTY STONEHENGE AND THE SEWER DRUIDS was created for Wasserman Projects’ exhibition space in 2019, and a public-art installation of the works was installed at the corner of Riopelle and Wilkins Streets in Eastern Market. For this incarnation, the Shitty Mountains were painted in DayGlo colors, further conflating the fluorescent stone works of Rondinone with the discarded shitpipes of Detroit. At the conclusion of the Wasserman Projects installation, many of these DayGlo painted objects were returned to the same vacant lots and fields from where they were collected, and continue to fade and sink into the earth, as they had for years before. Meanwhile, the Seven Shitty Mountains installed along a corner in Eastern Market from 2019 to the present continue to evolve over time, becoming the megalithic backdrop for Detroit Lions tailgate parties, various music videos, fashion shoots, wedding parties, and jungle gym props for intrepid Tik-Tokers. The project was featured inDetroit Art Review |
