THE QUARRY / STEINBRUCH is a site-specific installation and photo project created in and around the German auto city of Wolfsburg. Based on the history of Wolfsburg castle, local legends, ancient cairns, various mythologies, and Andre Norton's Iron Cage, the installation was built within the now abandoned sandstone quarries of Velpke, a Stone City that once supplied the same rock used at Schloss Wolfsburg. The photo series was created over the course of 1 week, artifacts from various sites were collected, and the sculpture was left to be destroyed, which it was, 2 months later.
