HANGING CAIRN is a site-specific sculptural installation made from approximately 120 aerated concrete blocks found onsite at Co-Lab Project's Demo Gallery in downtown Austin, TX. Based on ancient stone cairns, egg symbolism, cocoons and chrysalides, the hanging coffins of Asia, and contemporary Capsula Mundi burial pods, the installation focuses on ideas of transformation, metamorphosis, death and rebirth. Created for the exhibition Good Mourning Tis of Thee - curated by Alyssa Taylor Wendt and Sean Gaulager - the levitating disco-cairn / hanging coffin / concrete chrysalis cocoon / etheric egg / stone hive / excavated entity will be destroyed when the building itself is demolished in the near future.
